This week we did a lot of awesome things. Monday and Tuesday I worked with the Medical Assistants. I did not know MA's worked so close with patients. I got to see a lot of babies and children in a medical setting. Sadly, they weren't very happy to see us because that meant they were getting shots. :(. Thursday I worked in infusion and saw how people with an iron deficiency got healthy again. It was really cool because I got to sit and talk with the patient as they got their treatment. Friday I was in cardiac rehab and I didn't get to see much because the only patient in that day was new and just had to do some basic paper work. But he was a very wise man and we talked a lot about the steps I should take next to further my education and eventually career.
I read "15 Traits Of The Ideal Employee". In my position as a student I do not get to do very much around the medical office. Although, patients do see me as much as they see the medical professionals. With that being said, marketability is probably the most important trait I have in my current job. I am not a professional but I always look professional. No parent wants a grungy teenager in the room while their sick child is being treated. I am always in clean, black scrubs, my scrub top is always tucked in and my hair is always pulled back and out of my face.

This week was a great first week. It's crazy how much quicker you can learn something when you are right there doing it. Everyone is so sweet and super supportive of Victoria (another student who I shadow with) and I already knowing what field we want to go into. One day we worked in triage with the RN's and got to see some blood testing of patients who are on blood thinners. Another day we worked in medical records and learned the importance of the people who don't necessarily work face to face with patients. The people who do paper work play a huge part in keeping the office running smoothly and making sure everyone has the correct information to make sure each and every patient gets the best care possible. So far I'm really happy that I have this opportunity to work so close with medical professionals. Thank you Mrs. Candela! :)
I think the quote from Alice in Wonderland fits me best. "I can't go back to yesterday - because I was a different person then." I know that a lot of people struggle to see themselves changing because change can definitely be scary. Although I recognize that it's hard to face change sometimes I see myself turning into a better me everyday. I live everyday remembering that the past is the past and only a fool trips on what is behind them. I like to think that I do learn from my mistakes and can realize when I'm making them and how to turn it into a positive thing. I am keeping this quote in the front cover of my notebook.
