Roadmap
Overview:
Starting my career is something I have put a lot of thought into. My ultimate goal is to be a Registered Nurse (RN) and help as many people as possible. Obviously plans change as time goes on so I am trying not to be so reliant on one set path to getting to my career goals. I plan on getting my bachelors degree at Oakland University. After that I want to get the best job possible, getting the most benefits. I want to make sure I can live close to the hospital I work at and also make sure that it is a good area to start a family. There are a lot of factors that go into choosing a career but there are even more to make the career come together.
Education:
To become an RN you need a degree and you need to pass the board exam. I plan on attending Oakland University which is around $30,000 a year. Student loans are something I am going to be sick of paying after my four years at Oakland but it is worth it to me if it means I get to do the things I love to do everyday such as helping others.
Getting Started with My Career:
Getting the ball rolling when it comes to a career is probably the hardest part. With becoming a nurse location is pretty important. Good hospitals aren't difficult to come by but finding the perfect one for me is something I need to do. I want to start a family and have kids eventually so I need to make sure a family is covered under the health and financial benefits the employer is willing to offer me. To be a nurse I need to be flexible when it comes to long hours. Working three 12 hour shifts a week is considered full time and the salary is usually a little over $60,000 a year. Being around positive people is important in a work environment especially in the medical field since some times you see tragic things day to day. Being a Registered Nurse takes a lot of dedication and time but in the end helping people trumps the difficulty of getting the kind of success I am looking for.
